A $5 billion AI loan is being shopped at about 11%. GTCR has sold $14.2 billion of a new fund as a lender sued to block one of its exits. Households expect 3.5% inflation for years. Crypto stocks beat bitcoin.
About 11%.
JPMorgan (JPM) is pitching that yield on a $5 billion loan to Volta Infrastructure. Volta was founded this year. Most of the cash buys about 36,000 Nvidia (NVDA) chips. It is offered at 6.25 to 6.5 points over the benchmark. Waymo's loan this week was reported at 5.25. Waymo is an Alphabet unit. AI money costs more without a big parent.
- Two U.S. public pensions, in Jacksonville and Arizona, paused new data-center funds. They cited prices and local pushback.
- Hurricane Isaias reached Category 3 and was due to hit land Friday night. About 72% of U.S. Gulf oil output was shut in as of Friday morning, the U.S. regulator said. Diesel fell after China resumed fuel exports at a smaller October quota. Brent was near $104 late Friday.
- AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile fell about 10% to 13% after SpaceX's airwaves deal. Tower owners rose.
- Delta (DAL) cut its full-year profit outlook by about a quarter. It sees fuel costs up $6 billion this year.
Lumentum Says It Is Sold Out Into 2029, and the Money to Build Around It Costs More.
Lumentum (LITE) says its optical parts are "completely sold out" through early 2029. Six months ago, it said 2028. For some products, it can't meet about 70% of demand next year, its CEO said. The stock rose about 5%. He said so in Tokyo; guidance has not changed.
Money moved the other way. The spread on Volta's loan widened by more than a point from September's early talk.
Stock buyers balked too. Firmus pulled its IPO Friday in Sydney. Now it is in talks to raise $2 billion to $3 billion in a private round, people familiar said. It has built 46 of its 912 planned megawatts. Its IPO price valued it near 600 times its fiscal 2026 sales. "It just doesn't have a compelling valuation," said UniSuper's John Pearce. His fund stayed out.
So the parts are scarce, and the cash to use them costs more. The squeeze lands on firms in the middle, like Volta and Firmus. They pay to build before AI buyers pay them.

SIGNAL 1: GTCR Has Sold $14.2 Billion of a New Fund. A Lender Sued to Block a $480 Million Payment to It.
GTCR's new buyout fund has sold $14.2 billion, filings show. That is 24% more than its last fund and above target. It has not announced a close.
On Friday, a lender sued Cable One (CABO). It wants to block a payment of about $480 million to GTCR. The cash would buy the firm's 55% of Mega Broadband, under an option GTCR used. The lender, CoBank, says it holds about $1.1 billion of Cable One's secured debt. It says Cable One's own filings value the stake near $54 million. The stock fell 28%.
What resolves this
A ruling on CoBank's emergency request decides if the payment closes, slips or gets reworked. If it's blocked, Cable One could breach its deal with GTCR.
SIGNAL 2: Households Expect 3.5% Inflation for Years. The Two-Year Yield Led Friday's Rise.
In Michigan's early October survey, households saw 3.5% inflation five to 10 years out. That is above its whole 2024 range. For next year, they see 4.7%. The survey's mood gauge fell to 46.3, below forecasts.
The two-year yield led bond yields higher, closing at 4.80%, up 5 basis points. Short yields had started rising before the survey came out. On Kalshi, an October hike fell to 15 cents from 18.
What resolves this
Wednesday's CPI. A hot print would lift December hike odds and could put October back in play. Bond markets close Monday.
SIGNAL 3: Crypto Stocks Beat Bitcoin. Strategy's Preferred Neared the Price That Lets It Sell More.
This morning PMD said fund data would show if bitcoin's bounce drew buyers back. That data lands tonight. Stock buyers moved first. Coinbase (COIN) rose about 4% and Circle (CRCL) about 5%. Bitcoin rose less than 1% since Thursday night. No news from the firms explains the gap.
Strategy (MSTR) sells a preferred stock called STRC. It closed at $99.66 Friday, its best close since a June slump. It now pays 12% a year. At $100 or more, Strategy can sell more of it to buy bitcoin. Below that, it has been buying some back.
What resolves this
Whether STRC tops $100 and Strategy sells more before its Oct. 29 update. That would bring back a buyer mostly missing since June.
On December 10th, a powerful new law signed by President Trump
will trigger a radical shift in America’s money system...
When a small group of private companies — not the Fed — will perform a major mint of a new kind of money.
And those who act before this new system fully kicks in could see gains as high as 40X by 2032.
But those who fail to prepare will be blindsided by this sea change to the U.S. dollar.
Go here now for the details — before the December 10th mint hits the market.
- Volta's loan has no rating, so CLOs, the biggest buyers of such loans, usually can't hold it.
- GTCR takes 20% of fund profits with no set return owed to backers first, a pension memo shows.
- By early afternoon, Polymarket put about a 28% chance on a U.S. strike on Iran before Nov. 3. Only certain strikes on Iran itself count. Less than $5,000 had traded.
Private Market Trends Driving Public Market Moves
The AI build still gets funded, but private lenders now set the price.
That price reaches public holders in two ways. One is the order book. A parts maker that says it is sold out gains, while a builder that needs new money gets pushed toward a private round. The other is rates. Volta's loan floats over a short-term rate, so a hot CPI that lifts hike odds would raise its cost after lenders sign. Both tests land on Oct. 14. Volta's lenders must commit that day, and CPI comes out.
3 Stocks at a Major Turning Point
Something unusual is happening beneath the surface of three widely followed stocks.
In each case, the fundamentals are saying one thing... while institutional activity, management signals or the options market are saying something else.
That kind of disagreement can matter.
Because when the evidence stops lining up, the next move in the story often comes down to a handful of signals most investors never think to watch.
Our new FREE Market Tell Special Report breaks down three of these situations, and shows you exactly what we’re watching next.
