Diesel stayed lower after a truce Moscow has not confirmed. Crude fell, then recovered. Amazon is in talks to buy Decart for about $7 billion, after another suitor walked. In Italy, two deals now turn on minority holders.
About 1.75 times.
Amazon (AMZN) is in talks to buy Decart for about $7 billion, people familiar said. In May, the AI startup raised money at a value of nearly $4 billion. Nvidia (NVDA) joined that round. Anthropic looked at a deal near $6 billion in August, reports said. It walked away in September after due diligence. Decart's software helps AI work move between chips. No deal is signed.
- A drone hit a tanker off Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz. Riyadh's main airport was hit for a second day. Goldman Sachs puts the war premium in Brent at a bit over $20.
- The dollar sat just under last week's 18-month high early Monday. Futures put about an 81% chance on a Fed hold this month. The U.S. cash bond market is closed for the holiday.
- The CPI for September is out at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasts call for core prices to rise 0.2%.
- JPMorgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS) report Tuesday before the open. Analysts see S&P 500 profits up nearly 30% for the quarter.
Diesel Stayed Down After a Truce Moscow Has Not Confirmed. Crude Fell, Then Recovered.
Brent settled at $104.72 on Friday. On Sunday, President Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine. Brent fell more than 2% that night, then recovered. By about 7:15 a.m., it was near $106, above Friday's settle. Heating oil, the U.S. diesel benchmark, was down more than 3% at its overnight low. By 7:15, it was down just under 1%.
Neither government has confirmed the truce. Ukraine's president said Kyiv would agree if Russia did. Hours later, Ukraine reported Russian strikes on power plants in Kyiv and Kharkiv. Washington and Kyiv may not even mean the same deal. A White House official said it covers oil refineries. Kyiv wants the power grid in, too.
The split fits the plumbing. Ukraine's drones have hit Russian plants that make diesel. A pause there would add fuel long before it adds crude. Diesel had other news, too. On Friday, Mr. Trump said Russia would ship over 300,000 metric tons of diesel. That is about 2.25 million barrels, less than a day of U.S. demand. On Sunday, the IEA asked members still behind on March pledges to release stocks faster, diesel first. Its board meets Thursday.
The Diesel Discount Is a Quote, Not Yet a Cost Cut
For owners of firms that burn diesel, Monday's relief rests partly on a truce Moscow has not confirmed. Much of the discount is already gone. If the truce fails in the open, the rest could vanish fast. Wednesday's CPI will show how much of the fuel shock has hit prices so far.
Investing In The Titans of AI
Carnegie didn't invent steel. He used new technology to produce it cheaper and faster than anyone on Earth.
Rockefeller didn't discover oil. He used industrial machinery to refine it more efficiently.
Vanderbilt didn't build the railroad. He understood that whoever controlled the infrastructure controlled the economy.
Their combined fortunes were between $700 billion and $1 trillion.
Best-selling financial author Alexander Green has identified three companies positioned to be the Titans of the AI age.
Buffett, Gates and Bezos Quietly Dumping Stocks—Here's Why
The world's wealthiest individuals are making huge moves with their money.
Warren Buffett just liquidated billions of shares. Bill Gates sold 500,000 shares of Microsoft. Jeff Bezos filed to sell Amazon shares worth $4.8 billion.
What is going on? One multi-millionaire believes they are preparing for a catastrophic event. But not a crash, bank run, or recession. It’s something we haven’t seen in America for more than a century.
SIGNAL 1: Amazon May Pay Up for Decart. CVC Agreed to Buy Into Fibrotex Below the Asking Price.
A deal could come soon if talks hold, people familiar said. Neither firm has confirmed one. For Amazon, $7 billion is about a quarter of 1% of its value. Amazon's cloud unit is already a Decart customer.
Private equity paid a different price. CVC agreed to buy a minority stake in Fibrotex, which makes camouflage for armies. The founding family keeps a majority, CVC said. It gave no price. Reports of the price differ. Each puts Fibrotex's value below the roughly $1 billion it sought in April. CVC had planned to tell only its own fund backers, people close to the deal said. It announced the deal Monday.
What resolves this
A signed Amazon deal would set a new mark for Decart's backers. Nvidia is one. For CVC, watch whether its fund backers object, or rivals follow it into defense.
SIGNAL 2: In Italy, Two Deals Now Turn on Minority Holders.
On Sunday, PMD asked whether banks want the big loans back. INWIT's two biggest owners are talking to banks about a buyout loan, people close to it said. Together they hold about 71% of the tower firm. The rest was worth about €1.9 billion early Monday, before any premium.
Tata Motors raised its Iveco offer to €14.40 a share and called it "best and final." By Friday, only 28.4% of shares were tendered. Exor alone pledged 27% up front. Three funds hold about 20.4%. Without one of them, Tata can't reach even a lower 80% bar.
What resolves this
Iveco holders vote Oct. 16 on the lower bar. The offer closes Oct. 26. For INWIT, a formal offer would show how big a premium the bank loans must cover.
SIGNAL 3: Event Markets Set a $22.2 Billion Weekly Record. Washington Wants to Call Them Swaps.
Kalshi and Polymarket handled a record $22.2 billion in one week, Dune Analytics data show. More than 80% of Kalshi's September trading was sports.
That is the legal problem. At least 44 states say sports contracts break their gambling laws. The CFTC has proposed calling this trading swaps. That would bolster the case that federal law governs. It could also bring new duties.
What resolves this
Whether the rule is published this week. Ohio's action against Kalshi is due around Oct. 16, and an Illinois court rules Oct. 29.
Hidden in Tesla's Filing: A $12 Billion "Super Startup"
Pull up Tesla's most recent SEC filing. Page 5.
And you'll see a single line showing $12 billion in revenue from a brand-new "super startup" Elon Musk has been quietly incubating inside Tesla.
This new "super startup" has nothing to do with cars or robots or space or AI…
But it sits at the center of what Blackstone calls "a $23 trillion investment opportunity."
And on Oct 21st, Elon is expected to pull back the curtain and reveal exactly what he's building.
But Adam O'Dell already knows… and he reveals it all in this urgent video.
- A South Korean bank now lends won to companies against bitcoin. Jeonbuk Bank uses a new court rule to have the coins sold if a borrower defaults.
- Moonshot AI's executives are in talks with an early backer before a planned Hong Kong IPO. The holder got 9.5% of the first shares and wants payment equal to 10.5%.
- Holders of about 80% of the SPAC's public shares took cash before Evernorth's XRP merger closed. Japan's SBI holds 39.9% of the votes.
Private Market Trends Driving Public Market Moves
A quote is not a signed price, in diesel or in deals.
Monday's diesel discount and Decart's $7 billion are the same kind of number. Both are real enough to quote, and neither is locked. One waits on Moscow, the other on Amazon's signature. CVC's price has a signature, and it came in below the ask. A fund that marks a stake to a reported price carries that gap. So does an owner who budgets fuel off Monday's screen. The first dated tests are the IEA board on Thursday and Iveco's vote on Friday.

3 STOCKS OUR SIGNAL ENGINE SAYS TO WATCH CAREFULLY
Three stocks. Three signals. Two weeks later, the story changed.
On September 2, we published three market questions around KLAC, HPE and PG&E.
Two weeks later, every one of them produced new evidence.
One company delivered record revenue and raised its outlook.
Another saw weakness spread across its entire peer group.
And in the third, a market risk that had only been showing up beneath the surface suddenly became explicit.
Yet none of these stories is finished.
That’s why we built Market Tell.
To track the signals that keep moving after the headline is gone — and show you what investors should be watching next.
