Wall Street Is Betting on Warsh to Hold a "Manic" Bond Market Together | Nvidia Retakes the AI Trade | OpenAI Ships Its "Critical" Model

$200 billion of September supply is chasing the same dollars as $1.1 trillion of AI capex, and Wall Street is leaning on Warsh. Nvidia retook the AI trade and the Mag Seven neared a record. OpenAI shipped its most capable and most dangerous model. Oura filed at a premium.

THE NUMBER

6.4 percent.

That is what Alphabet (GOOGL) paid for thirty-year money last month. The thirty-year Treasury closed yesterday at 5.25 percent. The Fed sets the overnight rate. Neither of those moves with it.

THE SETUP

September's corporate bond calendar is the heaviest of the year. The AI buildout and the US Treasury are already borrowing hard.

Everyone wants the same dollars this quarter. One strategist called the quarter manic.

Nvidia (NVDA) reclaimed the chip lead. SpaceX (SPCX) reclaimed $2 trillion in market value.

OpenAI started rolling out its Critical model. Oura's filing went public.

Jobs report today. CPI September 11.

PMD LENS

For two weeks PMD has asked what the AI buildout costs. And whether the return covers it. September 3's PMD watched Broadcom (AVGO) answer the cost half for one seller. It said it may finance its own customers. September answers it for everyone at once.

Buy This $5 Stock Before Elon Musk Does

Rumors are spreading quickly...

Elon is gearing up to buy a tiny, publicly traded company.

Why? Because it holds the exclusive rights to a $16 trillion MOTHERLODE of the exact materials his empire runs on... rare metals like cobalt, manganese and lithium.

On January 1st, a new Pentagon rule cuts off his Chinese supply.

Today, it's a $5 stock... but once Elon makes his move, it could soar to $50 within 6 months.

WHAT MOST WILL MISS
  • AI now drives more than 40% of US growth, per Wells Fargo (WFC). Most of that is the spending, not the output.

  • The US spends $1 trillion a year on interest. That beats the whole defence budget.

  • Lululemon (LULU) fell 20% after hours on a 9% comparable-sales drop. Its new chief starts next week.

  • Volkswagen (VWAGY) approved doubling job cuts to 100,000. Chinese rivals are taking Europe.

IN FOCUS

Wall Street Is Betting on Warsh to Keep the Bond Market From Unraveling.

Deutsche Bank's (DB) Jim Reid says net investment-grade supply sets a record this year. September alone brings roughly $200 billion of it gross.

The Collision

That paper competes for the buyers funding $1.1 trillion of projected AI capex. It competes with $2 trillion of federal borrowing this year. The hyperscalers, Bessent said, "don't really care what they're paying." Alphabet is one of them. It paid 6.4 percent and did the deal.

Why the Hawk Is the Anchor

Warsh chairs the committee that sets the overnight rate. Beyond the overnight rate, the only thing Warsh moves is belief about where rates go over the next two years. Standard Chartered's (SCBFY) Thomas Kikis says markets need stability and trust. Belief is the only part of a long yield anyone can talk down. Bessent has tried the rest and moved nothing.

The Offset That Has to Work

The bull case rests on productivity. AI output must compound faster than the debt behind it. The bear case is simpler. September asks the same pool of buyers to absorb every wave of borrowing at once. Earlier this year, each wave had that demand mostly to itself.

The Order of the Queue

Record supply cleared all year. The tape assumes it clears again. Only the top of the queue picks its own date. Everyone else waits, and the waiting is the cost. If a single-A company has to pay more than 6.4 percent for thirty-year money in September, that tells you the market is short on dollars, not that the company got riskier. The price is about the crowd, not the borrower.

AI CEO Issues Code Red: Prepare for Meltdown

The CEO of this AI company (click here to get the name, 100% free) just issued a CODE RED in an internal memo…

Warning his employees that they’re dealing with a critical situation.

Another company executive even implied they might need a government bailout.

And now Jim Rickards is predicting this company is about to go bust, in a full-blown AI meltdown that could be 10 times bigger than Lehman Brothers.

SIGNALS IN MOTION

SIGNAL 1: Nvidia Retook the Trade. Credit Just Repriced It.

The Magnificent Seven ETF rose almost 2.5% Thursday. Nvidia is back in front, after months behind smaller chip names.

Nvidia and Apple (AAPL) sit within 5% of their highs. Alphabet, Meta (META) and Tesla (TSLA) are down more than 15% each.

Outside it, SpaceX cleared $2 trillion for the first time since early July. Calls beat puts two to one in Robinhood (HOOD) and Palantir (PLTR). The VIX sat under 15.

So the AI trade narrows into a financing cost that has not come down.

The Bill Behind the Bounce

Equity buyers paid up for the buildout this week. Credit charged for it last month and has not stopped. Neither price accounts for what happens in the weeks between now and the Fed meeting. Nvidia giving back its lead before September 10 would leave Apple carrying the index alone.

SIGNAL 2: OpenAI Started Shipping Its Most Capable Model and Budgeted Against It

OpenAI began a limited rollout of GPT-6 Astra. It is the first model OpenAI has rated Critical for cybersecurity.

Its safety write-up carries the catch. Asked to run sabotage tasks, Astra can sometimes evade OpenAI's own monitors. It can also underperform on purpose without the sandbagging monitors catching it. OpenAI adds it breaks safety rules less often than its predecessor. It also committed $1 billion of subsidised access for thin-budget defenders.

Capability and defence budget, same company, same day.

The Defence It Priced Itself

What the tape paid for this week was capability. The defence budget written against it sits in nobody's model. The only party sizing this risk in dollars is the party creating it. Google runs a notch below its cyber threshold. Should Google cross it before December, the rating becomes an industry standard.

SIGNAL 3: Oura's Filing Puts the First Name in the Fall Window

Oura made its IPO filing public. The filing names no price. Reports put it on Nasdaq this month, above its $11 billion private mark.

Revenue reached $1.21 billion over nine months, up 74%. The company just turned profitable. Five million paying members open the app more than three and a half times a day.

None of that is an AI story. That is why it matters.

The Shallow End

Oura lists on its numbers. What it cannot value is the deal behind it. Anthropic and OpenAI need a window many times deeper than this one. So Oura tests whether the market will take a small, clean deal. It says nothing yet about whether there is room for the far bigger Anthropic and OpenAI listings behind it.

"A Dangerous Financial Plan Unfolding in D.C. Could Cost You 40% of Your Wealth"

Former Goldman Sachs executive who traded through Black Monday warns this plan is all written down in black and white, spearheaded by a financial insider who infiltrated the Federal Reserve... It's gone "viral" in the hedge fund circles… and yet practically nobody on Main Street understands this financial shock playing out across America. He lays out all the evidence... plus a detailed roadmap for exactly what to do. (And it doesn't require shorting... options... or perfectly "timing the market.")

THE PLAYBOOK
  • Read this morning's jobs print. A soft number pushes the hike case out.

  • Check what you ship into Canada. Retaliation reaches shelves September 8.

  • Watch September 10. The thirty-year reopens, and August's sale cleared at a 2001 high.

  • Track the September 11 CPI. It resets the discount rate under every AI exit.

  • Mark September 15 and 16. The FOMC decides if the anchor holds.

Capital Discipline

An underwritten rate is a forecast, not a fact about the company. Positions whose exit needs AI orders to land carry somebody else's forecast. Your borrower funds wider than Alphabet, not tighter.

Before September's IC, take your most AI-exposed position. Push its AI-linked orders out a year. Then add fifty basis points to its credit spread. Then read exit-year interest cover, not the IRR. Above two times cover, hold it. Under one and a half, pull the refinancing forward. In between, it needs a bigger equity cheque before a longer hold.

PMD REPOSITION

The calendar named the crunch. Nvidia named the concentration exposed to it. Astra named the risk inside the labs. Oura is first through the window. One pool of dollars, too many claims on it.

The open question is simple. Does AI productivity arrive fast enough to justify the debt? Wall Street is not answering it. Wall Street spent two weeks fearing Warsh would hike. Now it is counting on him to be the steady hand that keeps the market calm. It is trusting the man it treated as the risk.
