CENTCOM destroyed five Iran-linked tankers after the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. warship for a second straight day. Brent touched $100 before easing toward $97. The Dow fell 628 points, the 10-year held near 4.79%, and Bitcoin stayed near $79,000. Oracle reports Thursday before CPI gives the Fed its final major inflation test Friday.

MARKET PULSE

The Gulf is moving closer to the line markets have spent months trying to price.

CENTCOM said U.S. forces destroyed five Iranian crude carriers tied to the Revolutionary Guard after the IRGC targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles on back-to-back days. Both attacks missed.

Iran-backed Houthis also struck Saudi energy sites. Saudi Arabia responded in the sharpest exchange between the two sides since their 2022 truce.

Brent touched $100 before easing toward $97. The strikes justify the premium. The misses are keeping markets short of full risk-off.

The Dow fell 628 points, or 1.18%, to 52,786.07. The S&P 500 lost 0.58% to 7,673.52, while the Nasdaq fell 0.32% to 26,421.41. Intel (INTC) bucked the move, gaining 4.7%.

Three tests now matter: the Gulf conflict, Oracle’s earnings Thursday, and CPI Friday.

The Signal

Markets are pricing missiles that keep missing and oil that keeps rising. One direct hit could change both.

Premier Feature

There's a Strategy Behind the Iran War.

I know because I've seen the evidence firsthand.

On March 2nd — three days after the first missiles hit — I sat across from two U.S. Congressmen in back-to-back private meetings.

Those meetings pointed me toward something I spent weeks verifying.

The real purpose behind the strikes. The real objective. And the single company at the dead center of all of it.

This isn't random. It's a calculated Two-Front Economic War.

And there's one company positioned right at the heart of it.

ENERGY

The Gulf conflict is no longer only about shipping.

Iran fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. Navy warship for a second straight day. CENTCOM responded by destroying five Iranian crude tankers.

Neither Iranian attack hit its target. That distinction matters because oil is pricing escalation without yet pricing the loss of a major U.S. naval asset.

The Saudi front is widening too. Houthi forces attacked Saudi energy infrastructure, and Riyadh retaliated in the sharpest exchange since their 2022 truce.

Brent’s move to $100 came after reports of the second Iranian missile attack. It later eased toward $97.

The ceasefire framework still exists on paper. Missile attacks on U.S. warships, tanker strikes and Saudi retaliation tell a different story on the water.

Energy Signal

Two attacks on U.S. warships and a Saudi-Houthi flare-up justify the oil premium. The market is pricing escalation, not resolution.

MACRO

Rates are waiting for Friday.

The 10-year Treasury yield sits near 4.79%, close to the 4.8% level markets have struggled with before. September hike odds are near 52%, down from 58% after Fed Governor Christopher Waller again backed holding rates steady if inflation cooperates.

Waller wants room to wait. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh wants more proof that inflation is moving back toward target.

Friday’s CPI gives both sides their next argument.

The pressure is also structural. HSBC raised its year-end 10-year yield forecast to 4.65% from 4.30%, citing large fiscal deficits and heavy Treasury issuance.

That means even a Fed hold may not solve the longer-term yield problem.

Macro Signal

The September decision is close to a coin flip. CPI decides the meeting, but debt keeps the longer-term rate floor high.

CAPITAL

Oracle (ORCL) gets the first major AI earnings test since payrolls reset the rate debate.

Wall Street expects fiscal first-quarter revenue growth of 27.9%, up from 12.2% a year ago. Oracle has a $638 billion backlog, including a five-year, $300 billion cloud deal with OpenAI.

That deal is both the bull case and the risk.

Nearly half of Oracle’s backlog comes from one customer whose own financing needs have become part of the AI capital debate.

A second capital shift is happening underneath the market.

Evercore ISI says fund managers are speeding up tax-loss selling ahead of expected Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs. Investors are freeing cash rather than adding leverage.

Names down more than 10% this year, including IBM (IBM), Tesla (TSLA) and AppLovin (APP), could face more pressure as funds prepare for new listings.

Capital Signal

Oracle tests whether AI spending still supports current valuations. Tax-loss selling shows funds are already making room for the next AI trade.

CRYPTO PULSE

Cronos just tested one of crypto’s oldest promises: that blockchain history cannot be changed.

The Crypto.com-linked network rolled back almost two hours of activity, or 10,961 blocks, after a $120.4 million exploit hit lending platform Tectonic.

The attacker inflated Tectonic’s governance token roughly 100-fold, then borrowed assets against the false collateral.

Validators restarted the chain from before the attack. About $111.2 million was recovered, while $9.19 million had already escaped.

The money was mostly saved. The harder question is what the rollback means for permanence when unrelated transactions inside the same window can also disappear.

Bitcoin barely reacted.

BTC holds near $79,000 after three failed attempts to clear $80,000. Spot ETFs attracted $3.52 billion in August, their strongest month since November 2024, followed by another $770 million in September.

Bitcoin’s correlation with gold has also climbed to 73%, making Friday’s inflation print a direct test of the hedge narrative.

The Verdict

Cronos recovered most of the money by rewriting history. Bitcoin stayed near $79,000 because institutional demand is focused on BTC, not every blockchain around it.

CLOSING LENS

Three tests are converging.

The Gulf is close to direct naval combat. Two missile attacks missed U.S. warships, five Iranian tankers were destroyed, and Brent touched $100.

Oracle now tests the other side of the market. Its $638 billion backlog has to prove AI spending can still justify high valuations while yields sit near 4.8%.

Bitcoin faces both pressures from below $80,000. ETF demand is strong, but rates remain the cap.

Friday’s CPI connects all three.

A hot print strengthens the hike case, pressures AI multiples and tests Bitcoin’s growing link with gold.

A soft print gives Waller his hold case back.

The missiles have missed so far.

CPI cannot.
