Nvidia holds the lease on Anthropic's $35B cloud deal. Japan's 10-year hit its highest since 1996. The SEC is asking SPV managers to prove what they own. The FTC sued Amazon over $20B in advertiser harm. Venezuela is deploying 52 rigs.

MARKET PULSE

Bonds Sold Off Globally Overnight. Futures Opened Lower.

Japan's 10-year yield hit 3 percent, its highest level since 1996. German and French yields rose to multi-year highs. Eurozone inflation picked up for the third straight month. The ECB is expected to hike next week.

U.S. futures opened lower. The 10-year Treasury approached 4.8 percent. WTI climbed.

September rate hike odds crossed 66 percent per CME data. September historically averages a decline for major indexes. John Ternus takes the helm at Apple (AAPL) today. Robinhood (HOOD) was upgraded by Morgan Stanley with a sharply higher price target. Dell Technologies (DELL), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), and MongoDB (MDB) report after the close.

Investor Signal

The global bond selloff accelerated before U.S. markets opened. Japan, Germany, and France are all moving higher simultaneously. Bessent told CNBC he expects Tokyo to act to strengthen the yen. Whatever happens at the BOJ and the ECB next week arrives before the September 15 FOMC. The Fed does not set rates in a vacuum anymore.

Ex-CIA Analyst Warns: "Trump could create chaos with Russia and China.”

Donald Trump is preparing a move that could reshape global power — and spark massive gains for early investors.

Former CIA analyst Dr. Mark Skousen warns Trump’s hardline stance on China and Russia could ignite a global fight over critical minerals used in AI chips, EVs, and U.S. weapons systems.

When the government quietly took stakes in similar companies, stocks surged 200%–300%+ in weeks.

Now Skousen says the NEXT target is a tiny $5 American company — already backed by Tesla and $130M+ in U.S. grants.

STRUCTURE WATCH

Nvidia Holds the Lease on Anthropic's $35 Billion Cloud Deal.

Anthropic signed a $35 billion cloud deal with Lambda, an Nvidia (NVDA)-backed provider. The data center is in Nueces County, Texas, developed by Hut 8, a bitcoin miner. Nvidia secured the capacity from Hut 8 weeks before the deal was announced. Nvidia holds the lease. Lambda buys Nvidia chips and plugs them into Nvidia's space. Nvidia is also Lambda's investor.

Anthropic signed $45 billion with Nscale, another Nvidia-backed neocloud, earlier this month. Hut 8 is separately building a campus for Anthropic using Google TPUs, backed by Google financial guarantees.

Nvidia now occupies four positions in a single transaction: chip supplier, Lambda investor, building lessee, and Hut 8 counterparty. CFO Colette Kress said last week that frontier labs are growing faster than their credit profiles support. This is what bridging that gap looks like.

Four Roles, One Transaction

  • Chip supplier to Lambda
  • Equity investor in Lambda
  • Lessee of the building Lambda operates in
  • Counterparty to Hut 8 for the underlying capacity

Kress's framing explains all of it. If frontier labs cannot borrow, Nvidia becomes the borrower of last resort in its own supply chain.

Concentration Running Deeper

Nvidia's financing exposure keeps expanding. The $279 billion in supplier commitments, $230 billion in backstops, and now a direct building lease on a $35 billion Anthropic deal. The structure keeps working until it does not.

RATES WATCH

Japan's 10-Year Crossed 3 Percent for the First Time Since 1996.

Japan's bond yield hit 3 percent overnight, a level last seen nearly 30 years ago. Reports surfaced that Japan's next budget could be the largest ever. Bessent told CNBC he expects Tokyo to act to strengthen the yen. The yen slipped against the dollar anyway. Germany and France hit multi-year highs. Eurozone inflation rose for the third consecutive month.

The U.S. 10-year pushed toward 4.8 percent, extending Monday's move. September hike odds crossed 66 percent. The long end is moving globally, not just domestically, which is the distinction Bessent has been trying to hold.

Yields With No Ceiling in Sight

Three major markets hitting multi-year yield highs simultaneously names a regime, not an event. Every rate-sensitive asset, from utilities to long-duration tech, prices differently in this environment. The September ECB meeting arrives before the FOMC, which makes next week the first real test of whether central banks globally are coordinating or competing on tightening.

LEGAL WATCH

The SEC Is Asking SPV Managers to Prove They Own What They Claim.

The SEC stepped up examinations of firms behind special purpose vehicles that claim to offer exposure to private companies. Regulators asked registered investment advisers for proof their SPVs actually hold or have access to the shares they advertise. The examinations followed increased investor complaints and a marketing surge ahead of the SpaceX (SPCX) IPO and Anthropic's planned listing.

SPVs operate under few regulations. One SPV touted pre-IPO SpaceX exposure but later told investors the shares were sold before trading began. Another firm selling pre-IPO stakes filed for bankruptcy amid questions about what customers actually owned. Anthropic updated its website in May warning it would not recognize unauthorized stock transfers.

Anthropic's IPO resolves the underlying access problem. It also simultaneously marks every SPV that claimed exposure. Some of those marks will not match what investors were told they owned.

Timing Is the Risk

The examination process takes weeks to a year. Anthropic could price before any enforcement action. The S-1 language on unauthorized secondary transfers is the investor's best early read on where the exposure sits.

ANTITRUST WATCH

The FTC Sued Amazon Over $20 Billion in Advertiser Harm.

The FTC and more than 20 state attorneys general sued Amazon (AMZN) in Seattle federal court, alleging it secretly raised the minimum price advertisers pay across seven years. The complaint estimates more than $20 billion in harm. Amazon closed lower.

Amazon runs the third-largest digital ad platform. The FTC says Amazon changed its auction strategy in 2018, entering its own undisclosed bid that raised the price merchants paid. Internal documents show Amazon tracked the surcharge and kept it quiet. In recent years Amazon intervened to set prices on the vast majority of major shopping day auctions.

Amazon says advertisers never pay more than they bid and that minimum values are common across the industry.

Why Deception Is a Faster Case

The FTC is not alleging monopoly. It is alleging deception. That is a lower legal bar and does not require proving market power. The internal emails are the reason the case moves faster. State civil penalties are the mechanism for actual clawback, not just an injunction.

Who Else Is Watching

Advertisers now have a damages theory handed to them by the FTC's complaint. Private suits typically follow government deception cases. Amazon's ad revenue is large enough that the financial exposure is material even at a fraction of the alleged harm.

ENERGY WATCH

Venezuela's New U.S.-Backed Operator Is Deploying 52 Drilling Rigs.

North American Blue Energy Partners plans to deploy more than 50 drilling rigs in Venezuela. Six arrive by end of 2026, 12 more next year, then two a month from 2028. NABEP acquired rigs from Helmerich & Payne (HP), Precision Drilling (PDS), and Patterson-UTI (PTEN). It is currently pumping 200,000 barrels a day.

Of the 14 newly granted contracts, five fields were previously operated by Chinese companies and one by a Russian firm. A U.S. official confirmed the intent: oil that went to China now goes to the U.S. Chevron (CVX) pumps roughly 300,000 barrels a day in the same country.

A 52-rig program takes years to reach meaningful output. The legal questions about Venezuela's constitution do not resolve on that timeline.

China Displacement, Not Just Supply

  • NABEP contracts replaced Chinese and Russian operators directly
  • Bessent is simultaneously pressuring G20 counterparts on trade terms with Beijing
  • U.S. rig contractors have firm Venezuelan orders in a market where domestic activity is soft
  • Every barrel produced arrives after the political conditions that authorized it may have changed

What Chow Named

Former Chevron executive Ed Chow said uncertainty slows capital-intensive long-cycle industries and sometimes freezes them. A 52-rig program authorized under a political arrangement that may not survive its own timeline is a specific version of that uncertainty.

CLOSING LENS

September opened with every rate market moving simultaneously.

Japan hit a 30-year yield high. Germany and France followed. Eurozone inflation picked up a third straight month. U.S. hike odds crossed 66 percent. Nvidia disclosed it holds the building lease on Anthropic's newest cloud deal while also holding the chip supply contract, the investor stake, and the capacity agreement. The SEC is asking SPV managers to document what they actually own before Anthropic files. The FTC handed advertisers a damages theory against Amazon. And Venezuela's U.S.-backed operator is displacing Chinese producers with 52 rigs it is still building.

The rate environment that prices all of this has not peaked. Payrolls land Friday.
