A business that once expected to turn a modest profit this year is now bracing for a loss of roughly $200 million.
Fluence Energy shares fell 22 percent after the battery storage maker cut its full-year guidance. The company now expects revenue of $2.4 billion for fiscal 2026, down from its prior guidance range of $2.9 billion to $3.1 billion. Fluence also said it now anticipates a loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of roughly $200 million, a sharp reversal from its previous guidance range, which had spanned a loss of $30 million to a gain of $10 million.
A swing this large points to more than a slow quarter
Moving from guidance that bracketed breakeven to a forecast $200 million loss, alongside a roughly half-billion-dollar cut to revenue guidance, is a larger revision than typical demand softness usually produces. Investors will be looking for the company's own explanation of what changed inside a single quarter, and whether the shortfall reflects delayed project timing, pricing pressure, or cost overruns on existing contracts.
What to watch
Whether the company's next update identifies a specific, resolvable cause, such as project delays that push revenue rather than eliminate it, will determine whether Thursday's decline proves to be a buying opportunity or the start of a more serious reassessment of the business.
