Ether Funds Ended a 10-Day Exodus on Tuesday. BlackRock's Fund Sat It Out

U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs took in about $176 million, led by Fidelity, and ether funds added $24.8 million, their first inflow in 11 sessions. Both followed a week in which the two asset classes lost more than $1.2 billion combined.

Tuesday's crypto-fund inflows looked broad in the totals. Underneath, a handful of funds did the buying, and the largest ether fund was not among them.

Spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds took in a net $175.7 million on Tuesday, according to Farside Investors data. Fidelity's FBTC accounted for $103.1 million of that, BlackRock's IBIT for $65.9 million and MSBT for $6.7 million. Every other fund was flat. That reversed Monday, when IBIT alone accounted for a $65.4 million outflow and no other fund moved.

Ether funds gathered $24.8 million, their first net inflow in 11 trading sessions. Grayscale's Mini Ether fund took in $16.7 million and Fidelity's FETH $8.1 million. BlackRock's ETHA, the largest ether fund, recorded nothing. On Monday it had accounted for $75.1 million of an $85.4 million outflow.

Against the prior week

The scale of Tuesday's buying is small next to what left recently. In the week ended Oct. 9, bitcoin funds lost $681.1 million and ether funds $542.1 million, the largest weekly ether outflow since January, according to SoSoValue data. Tuesday's bitcoin inflow recovers about a quarter of that week's bitcoin outflow. The ether inflow recovers less than 5%.

XRP funds were the exception in that period, posting a 13th straight week of inflows. Solana funds lost about $1 million on Tuesday.

Where prices sit

The two assets sit on opposite sides of a common trend gauge. Bitcoin, near $83,333 at about 4:45 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday after an overnight high of $84,057, holds above the roughly $81,000 it has averaged over 50 days. Ether, near $2,505, has yet to climb back over its own 50-day mark of about $2,556.

The inflows came on the same day New York Fed President John Williams said he sees no need for rate increases in 2027 after one more this year, though the flows themselves do not show what prompted the buying.

Who was buying

The concentration matters. When Fidelity leads bitcoin inflows and the largest ether fund sits idle, the buying is coming from a narrower set of investors than a broad return of institutional demand would imply.

Market implications

One reading is that investors are buying ahead of a catalyst. Bitcoin is holding above its 50-day average, flows turned positive in both major assets on the same day, and a softer inflation report would support the case for a shorter Fed tightening cycle.

The skeptical view is that one session proves little. Tuesday's totals are small next to the prior week's withdrawals, the largest ether fund saw no new money, and October's flows remain negative on balance.

What to watch

The inflation data due at 8:30 a.m., and the flow figures for the sessions after it, will show whether Tuesday marked a turn. A second consecutive ether inflow, especially one that includes ETHA, would be the clearest sign that the selling has run its course.
