Crypto Media Got Cardano's Governance Deadline Wrong. The Real Risk Behind It Is Still Real.

The actual deadline is September 6, not September 1 as widely reported, and the network's own validators are still short of the votes needed to avoid a freeze.

Cardano's Constitutional Committee governance-renewal vote, which determines whether four of the network's seven committee seats get filled, actually expires September 6 at 21:44 UTC, according to Cardano's own official account. Multiple crypto outlets this week instead reported the deadline as September 1, a date that would already be in the past, an error traced to confusing the start of the relevant voting period with its end.

The number that matters hasn't changed with the correction: support from Stake Pool Operators sits at 39%, well short of the 51% threshold required, and SPO turnout, not the more-debated DRep vote, is the binding constraint on whether the renewal succeeds.

The stakes are concrete. If the renewal fails, committee membership falls below the minimum required size, and a set of governance actions, including treasury withdrawals, parameter updates and the network's planned Dijkstra and Leios upgrades, cannot be ratified until it's restored, delaying Cardano's own upgrade roadmap.

Precise current vote percentages beyond the SPO figure remain disputed across sources and aren't repeated here until confirmed against the network's own governance tracker. Cardano now has roughly four days to close a real gap in support before the network's own governance process runs short at the deadline.
